bitpop

A fast, playful iPhone camera for bold low-color images, smart palettes, and expressive dithering.

Quick start

  1. Open bitpop and allow Camera access.
  2. Swipe through the five looks, or open Tune to choose 4, 6, or 8 colors.
  3. Leave Palette on Auto for colors derived from the live scene.
  4. Press the shutter and allow add-only Photos access. The finished image saves directly to Apple Photos.

Looks and palettes

Factory looks work immediately. Tune exposure, contrast, palette, color count, and mapping only when you want more control.

You can save a named custom look. In Looks > Manage, share it as a versioned JSON file or import one that somebody sent you.

History and Photos

Recent editable captures stay in a small local History inside bitpop. Open a capture to try another look, reset it, or export a new PNG.

History is not a replacement photo library. Images saved to Photos remain there even if you delete bitpop.

Permissions

  • Camera: required for the live camera and capture.
  • Photos add-only: used only to save images. bitpop does not ask to browse your library.
  • Change either permission in iOS Settings at any time.

If a photo will not save

  1. Open Settings and confirm Photos access for bitpop is allowed.
  2. Check that the iPhone has free storage.
  3. Keep bitpop open while the save finishes, then try once more.

System requirements and contact

The current preview build is made for iPhone and requires iOS 17 or later. Camera quality and performance vary by device.
